  `So This Is La Verkin'
  
  LA VERKIN, UTAH
  More than 300 people viewed the recent showing of "So This Is La Verkin," a video written and produced by Church members in this small southwestern Utah community.
  
  The production commemorated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the La Verkin Canal – an 840-foot-tunnel taking water from the Virgin River to the La Verkin bench – by Mormon pioneers.
  
  Alice Stratton, 82, of the La Verkin 1st Ward, La Verkin Utah Stake, put together a script for the program. The script leaned heavily on early histories of those who pioneered the town, and also included 14 songs, a square-dance sequence, other musical numbers and an old-fashioned melodrama, similar to those put on 100 years ago.
  
  "Our goal was a production that would make everyone who watched the video stand a little taller as they realized just how very special their little town was, with its wonderful pioneer heritage," explained Brian T. Gubler.
